In one breath

The short version

You sign in with Apple, and your paths, lessons, glossary and progress live on your device — syncing privately across your devices through your own iCloud. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and we don't build an advertising profile of you. When a lesson needs to be generated, the topic you asked for is sent to be taught — and nothing more than is needed to teach it.

What we collect

As little as the lesson needs.

To build a course, Maestro uses what you tell it: the topic you want to learn, why it matters to you, your starting level, and how much time you have each day. This is the mission — it shapes every lesson, and it stays on your device.

As you learn, the app records your progress — which lessons you've finished, quiz results, and the concepts you've mastered — so it can pitch the next lesson correctly and schedule your reviews. This learning record is stored locally.

Maestro uses Sign in with Apple. So your courses can follow you across your devices and so you can delete your account whenever you want, we keep a minimal account record: an opaque identifier Apple gives us, and an email address. The email is whatever Apple passes us — your real address, or the private relay address Apple generates if you choose to hide it — and we use it only as the key for your account, never to email you. Your name, when you share it on sign-in, stays on your device.

A little else leaves your device, and only to make the app work. On our server we keep: that account record; a security key for your device (App Attest), so we know requests come from a real copy of the app; your subscription status and a count of lessons used, so your plan and the free limit work; and — only while a lesson is being made — the topic and the learning context needed to teach it. That maps to your App Store privacy label: an identifier (account + device key), your email address, purchases (your subscription), and user content (your topic), each used only to run the app.

Your learning itself — paths, lessons, glossary and progress — is stored on your device and synced across your devices through your own private iCloud account (Apple's CloudKit). That copy lives in your iCloud under Apple's privacy policy; we can't read it.

We do not collect your contacts, your location, your photos, or your browsing outside the app. We don't sell your data, run ads, share it with data brokers, or use it to track you across other apps or websites.

Where lessons are made

In the cloud, with a model that doesn't keep your data.

Lessons are generated in the cloud. When you ask to learn something, Maestro's server takes your topic and the context needed to teach it — your goal, your level, the lesson at hand — and sends it to our AI provider, OpenAI, which writes the lesson and sends it back.

OpenAI processes this only as our service provider, under terms that require it to protect your data to the standard described here and use it solely to generate your lesson. It does not use data sent through its API to train its models. It may keep the request for up to 30 days to detect abuse, after which it is deleted. Maestro's own server doesn't store the text of your prompts once the lesson has been returned.

To make sure requests come from a genuine copy of the app and not an impostor, Maestro uses Apple's App Attest: a device-level key proves a request is legitimate without identifying you. We store that key on our server for security — it's a device-level key, kept separate from your account identity, not a profile of you.

Sources and citations

Lessons are grounded in real material.

Before teaching, Maestro searches the open web and grounds each lesson in vetted sources, which it cites so you can read the original. A portion of source content comes from Wikimedia projects and is licensed CC BY-SA; the citations in your lessons link back to it.

Opening a cited link leaves the app and visits that site under its own privacy policy, not ours.

Subscriptions

Maestro Plus, handled by Apple.

Maestro Plus unlocks 100 lessons a month and the most capable model. Purchases, renewals and receipts are handled by Apple through your App Store account — we never see your card details. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled; you can cancel anytime in your device Settings.

To apply your plan across the app and count your free lessons, our server keeps your subscription's transaction identifier and a simple usage count — tied to your device key, not to you. We never see your card details.

Notifications

Only the reminders you ask for.

Maestro never asks for notification permission on first launch. If you turn on daily review, the app schedules local reminders to bring concepts back at the right time. They're generated on your device — there's no spam, and no marketing push.

Your data, your control

Delete a lesson, a path, or everything.

You can delete any lesson, path, glossary term or record at any time. Settings includes a full reset that permanently removes all of your paths and everything in them. Your learning syncs through your private iCloud, so removing the app removes the local copy, and you manage the iCloud copy from iOS Settings.

Delete your account. Settings includes an in-app "Delete account" that permanently removes your account record (the Apple identifier and email) and sessions from our server. Sign in with Apple keeps no token on our side, so to fully revoke the connection afterwards you can also open iOS Settings → your Apple Account → Sign in with Apple → Maestro → Stop Using Apple ID. The anonymous metering we keep — a device key and a usage count, not tied to your name — can be deleted on request using the contact below.

Children

Made for general audiences.

Maestro is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, contact us and we'll help.

Changes

We'll tell you plainly.

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use after a change means you accept the revised policy.
